Encouragement During COVID-19

I was really encouraged when I read in my Bible last night, Jesus tell his 12 Jewish ✡️ disciples:

“So do not be afraid of them.”

- Matthew 10:26

Q. Afraid of who?

A. Jesus was talking about the Jewish people who the disciples would encounter 👥 to share 🗣 the GOOD NEWS, the gospel: The Messiah, who the Jews were anxiously awaiting for, ⌛️had FINALLY arrived! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

God’s plan of salvation originated with the Jewish people, and Jesus, the Messiah, was a Jew. ✡️ Later, Jesus sent the disciples to go to the entire world. 🌎 (Matthew 28:19, Acts 1:4-8)

The Jews were waiting for the Messiah to usher in his kingdom. They hoped for a political 🏛 + military 🛡 kingdom 🏰 that would free them from Roman rule (think “Gladiators”🗡) + bring back the days of glory under King David 🤴+ his son 👶 King Solomon (who were the second + third kings of ancient Israel around c. 1000 B.C).

⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But Jesus was talking about a Spiritual Kingdom - one that would be WRITTEN on their HEARTS ♥️ & put the moral law 📜⚖️ on their conscience, 🧠 which the Jewish prophets of the Old Testament 📖 had prophesied about: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Jeremiah 31:33:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ezekiel 36:26: ⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove your heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

The GOSPEL today is that the kingdom is still near. No longer do we need to shed the blood 💉 of innocent animals 🐷🐮🐏🐃🐐🐂🐐🐗🕊 for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus was the FINAL sacrifice - the Lamb of God 🐑 who was slain.

When he was crucified after being beaten hundreds of times and flogged by the Roman guards, his final words right before he gave his very last breath on the cross were "IT IS FINISHED!" He took our sin upon himself, so now you and I can FREELY be restored to God, our amazing Father in Heaven, the God of Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob, and Creator.

The Jewish prophet Isaiah, of the Old Testament, wrote about the coming Messiah:

"He was DESPISED and REJECTED by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain...he was PIERCED 🔨 for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by HIS wounds we are HEALED."

- Isaiah 55:3-5

Through Jesus' crucifixion, death, remarkable resurrection BACK to life, and sending the Holy Spirit, the prophesied Messiah has already begun his kingdom on earth 🌎 in the hearts ♥️ of his followers.

One day the kingdom will be fully realized. Then all evil 😈 will be destroyed + all people will live in peace ☮️ with one another.

Let’s stay encouraged, continue to stay home, open our Bibles 📖 (which is God’s AMAZING love ❤️ letter to us) and learn about God’s great love for us that completely transforms lives.

The #Gospel in one sentence:
